Winner of the 2024 ABLE Bronze People's Book Award and Honourable Mention in the Children's Illustrated category for his debut book Cry Hard Chucky, local author Andrew Kelly returns to launch his second illustrated children's book, Laugh Hard Chucky.
Libraries Manager, Camille Cullinan said the Swan Hill Library was thrilled to be hosting Andrew again for his second book launch.
"We were proud to host the launch of Cry Hard Chucky at Swan Hill Library last year, and even prouder to see it go on to win awards and capture the hearts of readers nationwide. To be the chosen venue again for the launch of Laugh Hard Chucky is a real honour for our community," Ms Cullinan said.
Born and raised on a wheat & sheep farm in Victoria's Southern Mallee region, Andrew Kelly is the 13th of 14 children. Andrew did a range of jobs before heading off to university in his early 30's to take on the teaching career that he now really loves, ultimately leading him to his children's book series on emotional wellbeing.
"Both Cry Hard Chucky and Laugh Hard Chucky offer children a gentle, engaging way to understand and process big emotions."
"Laugh Hard Chucky demonstrates to the reader that in some situations, laughter really is the best medicine," Ms Cullinan added.
The community is invited to join the fun at Swan Hill Library on Wednesday, 16 July at 7pm for the launch of Laugh Hard Chucky with local author Andrew Kelly.
"It's set to be a fantastic evening for the whole family," Ms Cullinan said.
"We'll have the story reading along with songs, book sales, signings and free pizza too!"
Copies of Laugh Hard Chucky will be available for purchase on the night thanks to Collins Booksellers Swan Hill, with Andrew on hand to personally sign copies.
