Swan Hill Regional Libraries will welcome acclaimed Australian author Mark Smith to Swan Hill Library at 7pm on Wednesday 25 March for a special evening discussing his new adult psychological thriller, Three Boys Gone.
The novel follows Grace Disher, a high school teacher faced with an impossible choice. When three of her students are caught in perilous surf, Grace knows that diving in to save them would almost certainly cost her own life. She chooses not to act. But can she live with that decision? And should she have given her life?
Libraries Manager Camille Cullinan said the event promises to spark thoughtful and engaging discussion.
"We're delighted to host Mark at the Swan Hill Library and provide our community with the opportunity to hear firsthand about the inspiration behind Three Boys Gone and his writing journey," Ms Cullinan said.
Mark is also the author of four celebrated young adult novels. The Road to Winter was shortlisted for multiple awards and is studied in schools across Australia, while its sequel, Wilder Country, won the 2018 Australian Indie Book Award for Young Adult Fiction. Also an award-winning writer of short fiction, Mark's work has appeared in leading publications in Australia and internationally.
Ms Cullinan said the visit would extend beyond the evening event.
"In addition to the public conversation on 25 March, we're pleased that local students will benefit from Mark's expertise during his time in the region.
"College students will have the opportunity to participate in his writing workshops at Manangatang P-12 College, which is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring young writers," she said.
