Cairns author Angela Bonomi will next week discuss her newly released book which details her escape from the cycle of domestic violence as part of Australian Reading Hour.
The Australian Reading Hour is an initiative that encourages both adults and children to embrace the benefits of reading for one hour.
It aims to encourage people to either rediscover their love of reading or introduce them to the joys of storytelling and learning.
Each of Cairns Libraries' eight branches will celebrate Australian Reading Hour on Tuesday 14 September with special reading nooks to encourage adults and children to read throughout the day, as well as displays.
This year, Australian Reading Hour aims to celebrate stories that matter, such as that told by Ms Bonomi in her book Angel's Fire Ignites.
This confronting and timely book, details one woman's 10-year experience of being trapped in the cycle of domestic violence, and how she eventually broke free of the abuse and moved forward with her life.
Conversations in the Library with Angela Bonomi is on Tuesday from 10.30am to 11.30am at Smithfield Library.
For children, a special Story Dog's reading session will be held at Manunda Library from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.
