Baby in car with drink-drive dad at Botany

A man has been charged after he was allegedly caught drink-driving with his young son in an unrestrained in the back seat in Sydney's south yesterday.

About 5.45pm (Sunday 11 August 2019), officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting proactive patrols in the Botany area, when they detected a BMW hatchback travelling at 69km/h in a 50km/h zone on Botany Road.

Officers stopped the car to speak with the driver, a 29-year-old man, when they saw a 10-month-old boy sitting in the rear-passenger seat unrestrained.

The man returned a positive a roadside breath test. He was arrested and taken to the roadside breath testing bus, where he underwent a breath analysis test, which allegedly returned a reading of 0.126.

His licence was immediately suspended, and he was issued a Court Attendance Notice for drive with mid-range PCA, drive motor vehicle exceed speed over 10km/h, not carry driver licence, and drive with unrestrained child.

The man is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 12 September 2019.

The child was taken into the care of relatives.
