Backing Local Creatives to Enrich Tasmania's Arts Culture

Tasmanian Government

Twenty Tasmanian artists and groups will develop and share new stories, performances and artworks with local audiences through the Tasmanian Government's latest Individuals and Groups funding round.

Minister for Arts, Roger Jaensch, said more than $427,000 in funding would support artists across a wide range of artforms and regions, strengthening the State's cultural life.

"Tasmanian artists tell our stories, shape our island's creative identity and make this a richer place to live," Minister Jaensch said.

"This program backs artists at every stage, from developing ideas and skills through to bringing finished work to audiences.

"Tasmania has long been a home for creatives, artists and innovators and through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we're continuing to invest to support them."

Funding recipients include Carrie McLean and Julie Waddington from Hobart, who will complete the second stage of creative development of a new theatre work The Cleaner.

Nunami Sculthorpe-Green, from Hobart, will undertake the rayakana milaythina (Song of Country) creative residency.

Brendan Walls, from the South East, will create an experimental work for Salamanca Arts Centre's 50th anniversary program, and Lisa Garland, from the North West, will produce a book of photographic works created across Tasmania's North and West regions.

Funded projects span literature, music, theatre, dance, visual arts, Aboriginal arts and cultural practice, and community arts, with recipients from Hobart, the South East, Launceston and the North East, and the West and North West.

Applications were independently assessed by expert peers from Arts Tasmania's Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register.
