Like many across the country, I am deeply shocked and saddened by the acts of terrorism in Bondi last night that directly targeted the Jewish community.
On behalf of the City of Ballarat, our thoughts are with the victims, their families and all Jewish people, and everyone affected by the terrorist attack in Bondi.
Ballarat extends our deepest condolences and stands in solidarity with the Jewish community.
We value Ballarat as a city where diversity is not only accepted, but celebrated, and will be laying a wreath on the steps of the Ballarat Synagogue as a mark of respect and unity.
I'd like to acknowledge that events like this can be deeply unsettling - especially for Jewish people who feel personally targeted or who carry fear because of their identity, faith, or background.
Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported. There is absolutely no place for antisemitism in our communities or in our workplaces.
