Ballarat to host Australian Regional Tourism Convention

The Australian Regional Tourism and Convention Partner, City of Ballarat, is pleased to announce that Ballarat, Victoria will be hosting the 2020 Australian Regional Tourism Convention (ARTC) to be held 26-28 October 2020.

In a highly competitive environment to attract the convention, this announcement follows a successful pitch by the City of Ballarat's Events team and presents an exciting opportunity to highlight the valuable work being delivered in the tourism sector by the City of Ballarat and the growing number of local entrepreneurial operators.

The City of Ballarat is looking forward to showcasing Ballarat as a tourist and conference destination when it hosts the 2020 Australian Regional Tourism Convention in 2020," Ballarat Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor said.

"Recently crowned a UNESCO Creative City, Ballarat is a leading example of how local government, business, artisans and tourism bodies are collaborating to leverage existing and emerging visitor trends," he said.

The ART Convention is a must-attend event for local councils, regional tourism organisations, tourism professionals and businesses, and government personnel wanting to contribute to the future of regional tourism in Australia.

"We are very excited to be working with City of Ballarat for the coming year to deliver the 2020 Australian Regional Tourism Convention in Ballarat," said Coralie Bell, ART Chair.

"The City of Ballarat is currently undergoing a period of significant change in their approach to engaging and supporting their local visitor economy, this combined with the regional city's rapid growth sets an ideal scene for a vibrant and stimulating convention," continued Ms Bell.

Regarded as the most significant annual event for anyone engaged in regional tourism, the convention provides delegates the opportunity to connect, share ideas and engage in robust discussions around opportunities and challenges being faced by the industry.

The 2020 Convention theme is 'building resilient and adaptive communities that thrive'.

Nigel Collin has also been announced as the Convention facilitator.

Early-bird registrations will open online in March.
