Ballina airspace review published

The review, conducted by CASA's Office of Airspace Regulation, assessed the airspace architecture as well as the aircraft activity within the airspace surrounding Ballina, Lismore, Casino and Evans Head aerodromes from the surface up to 8,500 feet above mean sea level.

Consultation on the draft review in June/July 2022 helped us understand industry and community issues to finalise our review. It also influenced our formulation of a timeframe for putting final solutions in place.

Nine recommendations to improve safety have been identified. They are designed to adopt a graduated approach to reducing airspace risk at Ballina, intended to build up to a controlled aerodrome service with an associated control zone and control area steps.

Implementation of the recommendations will be subject to further engagement with stakeholders.
