Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne
This weekend Darling Street transforms into a full-day celebration of music, local food, creativity and connection for the inaugural Festival of Balmain.
This lively new community festival will celebrate what is special about one of Sydney's oldest and most famous suburbs.
On Sunday 30 November from 11 am to 5 pm, Darling Street (between Montague and Booth Streets) will come alive with:
- Live music and pop-up performances by local bands and roving acts
- Street food, pop-up breweries, bars and distilleries showcasing the best of the Inner West's culinary culture
- Market stalls featuring local makers and handcrafted treasures
- Art-workshops, kids' activities, interactive history tours and plenty of dog-friendly fun
Mayor Darcy Byrne said: "We've heard from businesses, bands and residents who want an event that honours Balmain's rich history and vibrant present. Festival of Balmain does exactly that - a free, family-friendly event that shines a spotlight on local talent, local flavours and local stories."
"We're inviting all locals, as well as the many thousands of former Balmain residents throughout NSW, to return to their hometown to share stories and relive the history of the place." Mayor Byrne said.
Councillor Kerrie Fergusson added: "Balmain has long been a creative heart of the Inner West and this festival brings neighbours, local business, music and makers together on Darling Street to celebrate that spirit. It's about dancing, wandering, discovering, and connecting in our community."
A stellar line-up of performers across three stages will include:
- SUB-TRIBE
- Yulugi
- Spectra Jazz Orchestra
- Alibii
- Mia Lovelock
- Son Patacore
- Cassandra Oscar
- Curious Legends
The Festival of Balmain is proudly funded by the NSW Government's Open Streets Program, led by Transport for NSW, and reflects Inner West Council's commitment to community-driven, inclusive celebrations of place.
