Barlow Park Upgrade Plans Revealed

Plans for the Barlow Park Stadium upgrade have been released, with an architect appointed to lead the project ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Barlow Park design

The upgrade will provide a long-term venue for sport and events in Cairns, supporting community use and future major events beyond 2032.

Architectus has been appointed as principal architect following a six-month selection process. The project team includes international sports architecture firm HKS and local design partner Indij Design.

The design will deliver a new grandstand which will increase seating capacity from the current 1,700 to 5,000. The design focuses on improved sightlines, so more people can clearly see the field from every seat.

To suit the Cairns tropical climate, shade and ventilation are also part of the design to keep spectators covered from sun and rain.

The project also includes:
