Barrier Police Charge Two for Firearm, Drug Offences

Barrier Police have charged two people with multiple alleged firearm and drug offences following an extensive investigation across the state's far southwest.

In December 2025, officers attached to Barrier Police District commenced an investigation after locating multiple prohibited items during a search of a property on River Road, Coomealla, 3km east of Dareton.

During the search police located and seized a double barrel shotgun, a bolt action rifle, ammunition, and a number of power tools believed to have been stolen.

Following the search, police arrested a 56-year-old woman at the home before taking her to Dareton Police Station.

She was charged with possess unauthorised firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm, and possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm.

The 56-year-old was granted conditional bail to appear before Wentworth Local Court on Tuesday 3 February 2026.

Following further extensive inquiries, police attended Abbotsford Bridge, Curlwaa, about 8.30am yesterday (Thursday 8 January 2026), as part of ongoing investigations.

On arrival, police arrested a 34-year-old man after he was found allegedly hiding in a nearby store.

During the arrest police located and seized 6.3 grams of methylamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The man was also taken to Dareton Police Station where he was charged with 15 offences including:

  • Firearm found at premises-subject to prohibition order (four counts)
  • Possess prohibited drug (two counts)
  • Possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm (two counts)
  • Possess unauthorised prohibited firearm
  • Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
  • Not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm
  • Not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle)
  • Supply prohibited drug more than indictable and less then commercial quantity

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 4 today (Friday 9 January 2026).
