Battling beach erosion

Council is assessing several options to address the impact of coastal erosion to the bathing boxes and vegetation at Dendy Street Beach.

Sandbags were installed as a temporary solution and we are continuing to investigate longer term solutions.

A report outlining a range of options will be considered by Council at the 23 November meeting.

The new bathing boxes at the southern end of Dendy Street Beach were built above the high tide line to fill in gaps between existing bathing boxes. Historically, bathing boxes were located all along the beach.

As the beach is a natural coastal environment, high tides and storm surges may impact the bathing boxes.

The boxes were moved from the front of the beach to the back of the beach many years ago in order to provide more protection from tides.
