When Jeanne started receiving help with household duties and personal care from Bayside Care and Support, she never imagined how important the service would become.
A resident of Hampton East for 70 years, Jeanne initially received entry level care through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).
"I've been using the services from Bayside for close to 30 years, since I had my first hip replacement and needed a little help with domestic assistance, like cleaning and shopping," said Jeanne.
Jeanne continued driving up until her mobility became an issue and she needed to increase her level of support. Subsequently, Jeanne was assessed by an assessment service and approved for a home care package.
Fortunately, when Jeanne received the paperwork to say she had been assigned a home care package, one of her support workers let Jeanne know that she could choose to have her Home Care Package with Bayside. This meant Jeanne did not have to change support workers.
"Choosing a provider was so difficult, so I was very grateful that Bayside offered the packages. The reason I chose them was because I could keep using the same support workers, so I didn't have to get used to new people. I had no trouble at all with the transition to the Home Care Packages."
Jeanne now receives a higher level of care as part of her Home Care Package provided by Bayside, including being driven to appointments, meals, other healthcare assistance and independence equipment.
Most importantly for Jeanne, the service allows her to stay at home.
"I can't say how high it is on my list," said Jeanne. "I get up in the morning, the sun rises on my lawn, and I watch it set from the front of the house. I'll hopefully be here forever."
