Councillors, staff and our community are deeply saddened by the horrific incident in Bondi yesterday.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by this horrendous act.
Bayside stands with our Jewish community and send love and support. Hanukkah is meant to be a time of light and joy - no community should ever face violence or fear whilst celebrating their faith. We all have the right to live in peace and safety.
As Australians we must stand together and show unity, compassion and resolve in the face of hatred and violence.
Our flags will be flown at half-mast today, together with all government buildings across Australia.
We are committed to supporting our community through this difficult time and are liaising with Victoria Police to ensure community safety.
The City of Bayside is committed to social cohesion and inclusivity. This is more important than ever during these dark days.
During challenging times, please prioritise your well-being and that of your families. Support is available through Lifeline on 13 11 14, Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636 and Kids Helpline on 1800 551 800.
On behalf of my fellow Councillors I send my deepest condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy.
Councillor Debbie Taylor-Haynes
Bayside Mayor
