The City has completed beautification works at the 158-year-old Ceres Temperance Hall.
Two garden beds and three large planter pots were installed at the front of the historic hall, with Italian pencil pines and miniature white agapanthus planted in each.
The greenery adds a pop of colour against the sandstone backdrop while enhancing the façade of the building. Due to their slim nature, the pines will not hide the building as they continue to grow.
The garden beds are constructed from recycled local Barrabool sandstone to compliment the original materials of the historic Ceres icon.
Built in 1862 for the Barrabool Hills Total Abstinence Society, Ceres Temperance Hall is located in the semi-rural town of Ceres, overlooking the beautiful landscape of the Barrabool Hills with views across Geelong and the You Yangs.
The facility, which is currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, is normally used by the Ceres Community Association, and is also available to hire. Future inquiries from organisers of events, workshops, classes, children's parties, exhibitions and pop-ups are most welcome.

Ceres Temperance Hall is an important community facility with great cultural and historic significance for the region.
The addition landscaping has given the building a minor facelift, highlighting the beauty of this historic building and the sandstone from which it's made.
It will be nice to see people return to the hall to view the works when restrictions ease.
