Bec's Blame Game

Rene Hidding,Liberal Member for Lyons

This week's dumping of the O'Byrnes from key shadow portfolios is the latest in a very long line of shuffling the deckchairs by Rebecca White to protect her own leadership.

The chaos and lack of trust in the Labor party room is such that more members of the Labor Party room got shadow portfolios on Thursday than have been given a copy of their election review.

Since the Shadow Cabinet Ms White announced to take Labor to the election in August 2017, she's shuffled nearly every major job in the Opposition, including:

  • Education
  • Tourism
  • Energy
  • Building & Construction
  • Health
  • Economic Growth
  • Local Government & Planning
  • Infrastructure
  • Housing
  • Parks & Heritage

Michelle O'Byrne is the latest to find out that Labor members are only there to provide cover for the leader. Last week she was sent out to defend Ms White's pokies backflip with the ridiculous excuse that they'd only just realised they lost the election. The thanks she got from her leader was to be sacked from the Education portfolio a few days later.

Labor MPs are on a hiding to nothing under Ms White, with the Opposition Leader again refusing to say yesterday which election policies they are still spruiking and which they have ditched.

It's no wonder Labor Party members are openly questioning the Opposition Leader and what she stands for aside from protecting her own leadership.
