Beckmans Rd Upgrade Faces Federal Enviro Review

Noosa Council is working closely with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to plan for the Beckmans Road upgrade and to help ensure the project meets the expectations of the Noosa community.

This project represents the second stage of the Beckmans Road upgrade, a key and well-used connection between Noosaville, Tewantin and Cooroy. Stage 2 will be an important next step towards improving safety, managing congestion and providing better connections for all road users, including motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

A key component of the project is also consideration of potential environmental impacts with appropriate avoidance and mitigation measures considered as the project progresses.

Noosa Council, in a joint effort with TMR, has submitted a referral under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). As part of this process, the Federal Minister for the Environment and Water will invite public comment for each referral; regarding whether the proposed upgrade is a controlled action. Proposed actions will be open for comment for 10 business days on the EPBC Public Portal. The public comment period for the Beckmans Road upgrade has commenced.

Noosa Council appreciates the ongoing investment by the Queensland Government in Noosa Shire major road network.

"We look forward to a joint approach with the Queensland Government to keep the community informed as planning advances", Director of Infrastructure Services, Shaun Walsh, said.
