The search is on for the next Sydney Hills Youth Ambassadors!
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi is encouraging young people aged between the ages of 15-24 years, who also have a passion for improving youth issues and the local Hills Shire community, to apply for the Council-run program.
“Coming from a former Sydney Hills Youth Ambassador – this program is a fantastic opportunity for young people to have their voice heard at a local government level,” Mayor Gangemi said.
“You learn so much about the community and leadership, and you have a real chance to get involved and make a difference.
“For myself, I would say that my days as a Youth Ambassador inspired me to pursue a career with a focus on serving the community,” Mayor Gangemi added.
Meanwhile, current Youth Ambassador for the 2022-2023 period, Hayley Mogilin said the program allowed young people “to be heard” and the “opportunity to enact change”.
Fellow Youth Ambassador, Rebecca Yu, said the program helps to develop strong leadership skills.
“Including public speaking, event planning and time management,” she said.
Further to this, Rebecca believes the ambassadorship allowed her to pursue her passions and interests, while giving her the chance to make a difference in the local community.
“It helped refine my skills and it truly was an enjoyable experience,” she added.
If selected, youth ambassadors will participate in community events, speak at Council functions, actively participate and provide directions to The Hills Youth Army, promote youth opportunities within schools and the community, as well as act as a Council representative at relevant events during a 12-month period.
In addition to this, applicants must meet Council’s criteria and reside in The Hills Shire during the period of the ambassadorship.
