Belconnen basketball courts better than ever

The ACT Government has helped Basketball ACT fix up the Belconnen basketball courts with $36,400 COVID sport sector support funding.

Community sports have been greatly impacted by the enforced shutdown due to COVID-19. During the downtime, Basketball ACT has been working hard to improve the Belconnen facilities for the return to community sport.

Works included resurfacing the floors, roof repair, repair works to the grandstands and a new lick of paint. The courts are looking great and are ready for teams to hit the ground running when sports return.

Canberra proudly has the highest participation in sport in Australia and the ACT Government is committed to supporting sport at all levels.

The ACT Government will continue to:

  • upgrade facilities including making sure changerooms are female friendly
  • remove barriers for women and girls ensuring at least 40 per cent female representation on government funded sporting organisations
  • building new facilities such as the Home of Football
  • support pathways from grassroots to elite sport

The ACT Government is providing funding and relief equivalent to $3.3 million for Canberra's sports sector to help the sector to endure the challenges of COVID-19.

The sport sector funding is in addition to the ACT Government economic support for eligible businesses, including licencing fee waivers, commercial rates rebates and payroll tax waivers.

The ACT Government will continue to support sporting organisations to ensure the sector can re-emerge in the strongest possible position post-COVID-19.
