Belonging Every Day Starts With You

When neighbours connect, amazing things happen. Friendships form, support networks grow, and communities become safer and stronger. That's the heart of Neighbour Day 2026, happening across Knox from 28-29 March.

Ferntree Gully resident Chantal Adams last year celebrated Neighbour Day with about 20 nearby residents.

She had answered Council's call-out to host a neighbourhood gathering, with Council providing invitations, activities and other support.

Expressions of interest are now open for residents to host a Neighbour Day event on either Saturday 28 March or Sunday 29 March 2026.

This annual nationwide day encourages people to take the time to connect with their neighbours, helping create safer, friendlier and more resilient neighbourhoods across Knox.

Chantal says the event had a lasting impact beyond the day, fostering a sense of belonging and safety.

"I was due to have a baby in March so we did it as late as possible - my little one was only about a month old," she says.

"We just held it out in the front yard and put a couple of gazebos up and chairs out and a few neighbours came down from up the street and in the court around the corner.

"I thought it was a good idea. Growing up, we used to hold court parties after Christmas and it was always fun as a kid. My husband was the same - his court did court parties as well. So, you miss that.

"We live on quite a busy street and we don't always see each other.

"It's very nice to know that the kids are growing up in a safe network."

Let's make belonging more than a moment - let's live it every day

Expressions of interest to host an event close 11 January 2026.
