Bendigo fire suspected to be suspicious

Detectives from Bendigo Crime Investigation Unit are investigating a grass fire in Bendigo today (28 December).

Emergency services responded to a grass fire in the White Hills area of Bobs Street about 3.30pm.

The fire quickly spread and was threatening surrounding businesses and residential properties with residents of Strickland Street evacuated as a precaution.

The fire was eventually maintained and will be monitored overnight to prevent spot fires.

No one was injured during the incident and no property was damaged but at this stage the fire is being deemed as suspicious.

The cause of the fires is yet to be determined and police are investigating.

Investigators are keen to speak to anyone in the area who may have witnessed any of the fires, or persons or vehicles in the vicinity of the fires about the times they began.
