Council is off to a strong and productive start in 2026, with road projects again a major focus as several upgrades underway or are nearing commencement.
Following a strong 2024/25 roads program, council completed significant works across the road network, including more than 5 kilometres of road reconstruction, over 245,000 square metres of resealing, 11,535 square metres of asphalt patching, 21,912 square metres of gravel resheeting, and nearly 1,750 kilometres of unsealed road grading, alongside thousands of pothole, shoulder, signage and linemarking works, to improve our roads quality and safety. Council enters 2026 building on this momentum to continue improving road quality and safety.
Director Infrastructure, Leah Johnston, said Council's extensive road network - more than 3000 kilometres of sealed and unsealed roads - is one of the community's most valuable assets, and maintaining it to a high standard remains a key priority.
"Managing such a large network is a responsibility we're proud to uphold," Ms Johnston said.
"Our team is committed to ensuring our roads remain safe, reliable and fit for purpose, and we continue to invest in improvements that support residents, businesses and visitors across the municipality."
Council's annual works program is already progressing, with road projects scheduled for Karinie Street and Quambatook Road, while Beveridge Street and Tyntynder Road pavement works are currently underway.
"Our sealing, heavy patching and gravel resheeting programs will commence in February, further strengthening our local road network," Ms Johnston said.
These works are another step in Council's ongoing commitment to providing safe, reliable roads for all who live, work and travel in our region. Stay tuned for further road project updates.
