Council is set to commence a major road works project on Karinie Street, Swan Hill, early next month in March.
Director of Infrastructure Leah Johnston said extensive planning and preparation has taken place, and Council is eager to get underway on Karinie Street next month.
"Last year, a series of consultations were undertaken to collect feedback from the wider community and key stakeholders. The consultation phase provided valuable insight into current challenges faced by road users and informed construction planning to minimise disruption to traffic, businesses and residents," Ms Johnston said.
The project will involve a wide scope of works and will be delivered in stages to reduce impacts during construction.
"Stage One will extend from the Nyah Road roundabout to Murlong Street, with Stage Two continuing from Murlong Street and concluding just prior to Richards Road.
"The works include road widening and rehabilitation, complete with line marking and roadside infrastructure such as signage. Drainage improvements will also be undertaken, including kerb and guttering, side entry and junction pits, cross drains and overland flow drains," Ms Johnston said.
"The project will also deliver new on-street parking, a footpath on the south side of the road, and a shared pedestrian and cyclist path on the north side, including line marking, signage and a bike rack in front of the service station.
"Additional works include new lighting, tree planting and landscaping, as well as the re-establishment of off-street parking in front of the saleyards," she added.
Staging the works will help minimise impacts on daily operations and maintain traffic flow within the industrial area throughout construction. While every effort will be made to minimise disruption, some impacts are unavoidable.
"Speed limits and traffic controls will be in place. Pedestrian access will be limited during construction; however, alternative arrangements will be provided where required. On-street parking will not be permitted for the duration of the works," Ms Johnston said.
Completion of the major upgrade is anticipated towards the end of the year 2026.
This significant work will enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and ensure the road continues to meet community needs effectively. Council acknowledges the temporary inconvenience caused by these works and thanks the community for their patience, understanding and cooperation while these significant upgrades are completed.
