Macarthur residents may soon see improvements to rail services, with early transport plans pointing to more express trains and new connections for Camden's growing communities.
Although final details are yet to be confirmed by the NSW Government, the plans give a positive insight into how Sydney's rail system could expand in the years ahead.
Key proposals include a new T8 South line from Campbelltown to Wilton within the next five years, helping connect one of Sydney's fastest-growing areas.
There are also strong signals that the metro extension from Bradfield to Macarthur and Campbelltown via Oran Park is being prioritised, which would mean faster, more reliable travel for locals.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney said this was about giving people in Macarthur the same opportunities as other parts of Sydney, with shorter commutes, easier access to jobs, and better connections for families.
"Council will continue to work with government to make sure these projects are delivered for our community and will continue to advocate strongly for the delivery of future metro extensions from Bradfield to Macarthur and Campbelltown via Oran Park," she said.
"Better rail connections are essential to support growth, create jobs, and improve the liveability of our communities.
"These early signs show that our calls are being heard - but we will continue to advocate until commitments are locked in and delivered."
While formal plans have yet to be finalised or submitted to the NSW Government, early concepts provide an encouraging insight into the future expansion of Sydney's rail system - including the potential for more express services from Macarthur.
Delivering metro extensions from Bradfield to Macarthur and Campbelltown via Oran Park is at the top of Macarthur Council's (MACPAC) agenda. Council stands united with Sydney's Parkland Councils in calling for a full metro connection from Campbelltown through to Tallawong, a project that is critical for the region's future.
