Bid to secure sporting and entertainment events

Cairns Regional Council will look to secure two major sporting and entertainment events though significant funding agreements.

Organisers of the 7 Cairns Marathon will be offered $100,000 in funding to support the event for 2020 and 2021.

The inaugural 7 Cairns Marathon, which featured five race events, attracted more than 2300 participants, including over 70 international competitors.

Council has also approved funding of $150,000 to support the return of the Red Hot Summer Tour back to Cairns next year, with an option to extend that for 2021 and 2022.

Featuring John Farnham, Daryl Braithwaite, Jon Stevens, Vanessa Amorosi, Thirsty Merc and Dragon, the Red Hot Summer Tour was held at Barlow Park in April and attracted about 9000 people.
