Billions Wasted on Labor's Shelved Airport Rail: Southwick

Liberal Party Victoria

Reports today that costs on the delayed Airport Rail link could blow out by up to $3 billion dollars is further evidence the Andrews Government cannot manage major projects.

While the Andrews Government wastes billions of taxpayer dollars on major projects right across the state, life is getting harder for Victorians who continue to suffer from higher taxes and cuts to vital services.

Melbourne is one of the very few major cities in the world without airport rail, and only the Andrews Government could oversee billion-dollar blow-outs while work on the project is put on hold.

Shadow Minister for Major Projects, David Southwick, said Victorians were being punished for the Andrews Government's financial incompetence.

"Reports that the cost of the delayed Airport Rail link could skyrocket by up to $3 billion are deeply concerning," Mr Southwick said.

"When you start, stop and delay projects you always pay more, and its Victorians who continue to miss out.

"We are one of the few places in the world without an Airport Rail link and it is solely on the Andrews Government to explain why it promises one thing, and then delivers nothing."
