Free entry, giveaways, a party atmosphere and more will be on offer at Blacktown Aquatic Centre on Saturday 10 October as the community marks changing times for a favourite place to swim.
'The Last Splash' celebration will feature family fun including pool inflatables, face painting, a reptile display and live music as Blacktown City says goodbye to the current venue and looks forward to the exciting redevelopment.
Blacktown City Mayor Brad Bunting said the event was an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate generations of memories.
"Blacktown Aquatic Centre has been at the heart of our community for 65 years," he said.
"It is where many children learned to swim, families enjoyed summer days, and our community formed lifelong memories.
"The Last Splash is our opportunity to celebrate everything this venue has meant to the people of Blacktown, reflect on its incredible legacy and look forward to an exciting future."
The centre will close on Sunday 11 October at 5 pm so work can begin on its exciting $77.2 million redevelopment, funded by the NSW Government's Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants (WSIG) Program.
The redevelopment will deliver a modern, inclusive aquatic facility that meets the needs of the growing Blacktown community for generations to come.
This includes:
- a new indoor 50-metre pool
- a new 25-metre program pool to support high-quality learn to swim programs
- refurbishment of the existing outdoor 50-metre pool
- an expanded splash pad
- a new reception and kiosk
- improved accessible and inclusive amenities
- refurbished health and fitness facilities.
Mayor Bunting said the investment reflects Council's commitment to delivering high-quality community infrastructure.
"This redevelopment will provide modern aquatic and leisure facilities that support recreation, water safety, health and wellbeing for our growing community.
"We'll miss the centre while it is closed, but The Last Splash gives us a chance to celebrate 65 years of memories and look forward to welcoming everyone back to a transformed Blacktown Aquatic Centre."
The Last Splash will be held from 12.00 pm to 4.00 pm.
