Boat Collision Arrest

A 41-year-old Lyndoch man has been arrested and charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice in connection to the fatal boat collision at Swan Reach in February 2019.

He has been bailed to appear in the Waikerie Magistrate's Court at on 21 September 2020.

Just before 10 pm on Friday 22 February 2019 police and emergency services were called to the Swan Reach boat ramp after a collision occurred between two boats on the River Murray near the Swan Reach township near the boat ramp.

Two boats were travelling on the River Murray at night in the Swan Reach area when they collided causing the death of a 37 year old male from Gawler South and seriously injuring a 42 year old male from Gawler East.

Both men were air lifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital following the collision where one recovered from his injuries and the other sadly died.

Officer in Charge of Murray Mallee Local Service Area Superintendent James Blandford said the arrest was part of Riverland CIB's Operation Veritas.

"Despite today's arrest, investigators are calling for any witnesses who may have seen the collision, or been in the Swan Reach area in February, 2019 to please contact Crime Stoppers," he said.
