Body Found In Burning Vehicle - Mt Wilson

A crime scene has been established after a body was found inside a burning vehicle in the Blue Mountains earlier today.

Emergency services were called to Bells Line of Road, about 10km east of Mt Wilson turnoff, after a vehicle was reported to be on fire about 10.30am (Sunday 7 September 2025).

When firefighters extinguished the blaze, a body was found inside.

Officers attached to Blue Mountains Police Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command established a crime scene and an investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the fire. State Crime Command's Homicide Squad has been informed.

Neither identity of the person – or the cause of the fire – is not known.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with information, or who has dashcam recorded in the area between 10am and 10.45am today, to contact Springwood Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Bells Line of Road is closed in both directions between Mt Tomah Road at Mount Mt and Darling Causeway at Bell and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Motorists can use the Great Western Highway and Darling Causeway as an alternative route, and are advised to allow extra travel time. Emergency services and traffic crews are attending.
