A body has been located following the search for an elderly man missing near Forster.
About 4.45pm on Sunday 22 February 2026, emergency services were called to the Forster-Tuncurry Bridge following reports a man had gone under the water and failed to resurface.
Officers from the Manning Great Lakes Police District responded, supported by Surf Life Saving Australia and Marine Rescue NSW.
An extensive multi-agency search operation was conducted over following days before being suspended yesterday (Tuesday 24 February 2026).
About 12.45pm today (Wednesday 25 February 2026), officers attached to Marine Area Command recovered the body of a man in water near the Forster Breakwater.
While yet to be formally identified, the body is believed to be that of the missing 81-year-old man.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
