Body located in search for missing jet skier near Port Hacking

The body of a man has been recovered during the search for a missing jet skier near Port Hacking this morning.

About 7.30pm yesterday (Friday 24 December 2021) emergency services were called to Burraneer Bay following reports three men had been thrown from a jet ski into the water.

The driver – a 44-year-old man – and one passenger – a 39-year-old man – were rescued.

The older man was taken to St George Hospital with suspected chest injuries, where he remains. The younger man was not injured.

A third man – believed to be aged in his 30's – could not be located.

A multi-agency search to locate the man was initiated involving officers from Marine Area Command, PolAir, Sutherland Shire Police Area Command, NSW Ambulance and Surf Life Saving NSW.

The operation continued until 8.30pm, before it was suspended due to poor light.

The search, with assistance from the Police Divers, recommenced this morning from 7am (Saturday 25 December 2021).

About 10.40am, Police Divers located the body of a man in the vicinity of Shiprock Reserve, Dolans Bay.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing jet skier.

Officers from the Marine Area Command are continuing to conduct inquiries into the incident and will now prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
