Body of missing swimmer located - Monaro

Police have located the body believed to be that of a man missing from the state's Monaro region.

Officers from Monaro Police District were told a 56-year-old man entered the Snowy River upstream of the weir at Dalgety, 35km west of Jindabyne, about 11.45am on Monday (25 April 2022), before witnesses lost sight of him.

When the man did not return to shore, emergency services were contacted.

Monaro Police, NSW Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW, and Swift Water Rescue-trained SES members began searching for the man, with a drone also used.

Just before 9am today (Wednesday 27 April 2022), police divers located a body in waters about 500m downstream from where the missing man was last seen.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing man.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
