CFA firefighters were called to reports of a cow stuck in mud at a property on Greenway Lane in Kyneton at around 11.51am on Thursday, 29 September.

Four CFA units from Arthurs Creek, Tylden and Kyneton attended the scene.

Crews arrived on scene to locate a cow submerged in mud, up to its neck.

Local council was also on scene and has made heavy machinery available for any potential rescue operation.

Despite the tough, muddy terrain, firefighters worked together to devise a plan that would free the cow from the mud in the safest way possible.

A local vet was called to the scene to sedate the cow so crews could safely dig around it and fit a sling underneath the cow.

The cow was pulled from the mud and moved to safety on firmer ground.

The cow was alive when it was handed back into the care of the farmer at 3.30pm, however it was still sedated at the time.
