Bold plans for Oakey Depot site

Youth employment training, manufacturing and industry start-ups and a home to social enterprises are just a few of the ideas on the table for the former Oakey Depot.

During the Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Ordinary Meeting on 19 January, Councillors approved plans to prepare a business case for a combined use for the Oakey depot site, which would include a Manufacturing Industry Business Incubator Precinct for the Oakey depot site.

With employees having relocated to the Charlton Principal Depot, TRC Environment and Community Committee Chair Cr James O'Shea said this was an exciting opportunity for the re-use of the site.

"The Oakey community has a strong history in the manufacturing industry and we want to maintain this presence in the town," Cr O'Shea said.

"The idea we would like to move forward with is to create a space that maintains key functionality for Council business while also incorporating a Business Incubator and Training Hub centre within the location.
