The final section of the Bonnet Hill Safety Improvement Project is now complete, delivering a continuous sealed shoulder on the uphill sections of Channel Highway over Bonnet Hill.
The Hodgman Liberal Government has invested $4.7 million over four years to provide a safer shared environment for motorists and cyclists on this popular cycling route.
Improving road safety is a priority, and infrastructure improvements such as wider sealed shoulders creates more space for cyclists, as well as for motorists to pass bike riders safely.
The final 200 metre section between the Shot Tower and Bonnie Brae Road in Taroona was completed at the end of March.
Completion of the final stages brings the total distance to 4.6 kilometres of shoulder widening and sealing for traffic in both directions between Proctors Road, Kingston and Baringa Road, Taroona.
Improved signage has also been installed on the approaches to curves to further reduce risks to road users.
These technically challenging works have been delivered over four stages by Tasmanian companies Hazell Bros and Stornoway.
