A re-elected Tasmanian Liberal Government will invest in the Huon Valley Council's new 200-place childcare centre, supporting hundreds of working families in the region.
Our Government has listened to feedback from the local families, and Council, who have told us they need more childcare in the region.
That's why we'll reshape our commitment for a Child and Family Learning Centre in Huonville. We will now provide $5 million to the Huon Valley Council for its childcare centre to be co-located at Huon Valley Primary School.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said we're getting on with the job of delivering for families in the Huon Valley.
"The community has spoken, and we've listened to the feedback that this commitment is what families in the Huon Valley need us to support," the Premier said.
"We understand the importance of access to quality early childhood education and care for working Tasmanian families.
"Our strong focus is on giving children the best possible start in life and learning, and improving access to early education, regardless of where you live or family circumstances.
"In recognising the valuable range of services and supports that CFLCs offer for families and children from 0 to 5 years old, we will provide additional funding of up to $3 million for upgrades to Council facilities to deliver CFLC outreach services across the Huon Valley.
"This will be led through the CFLC in Geeveston once the model has been designed with stakeholders.
"Over the past two years, we have opened six new CFLCs around Tasmania, bringing the total number of CFLCs in Tasmania to 18.
"Our Government is already investing in an early years workforce development fund, more outside-of-school-hours care and expanding new early childhood and education care services.
"While Labor and the Greens argue, we've been delivering better healthcare, more housing, and responsible cost-of-living relief.
"And we've got more to do.
"Let's get on with it.
"Let's finish the job for Tasmania."
Additional funding to support the outreach service will be allocated from the new CFLC operational funding included in our 2025-26 Budget.
