Bordertown Checkpoint CLOSED, South Australia

The Dukes Highway at the border of Victoria and South Australia will be closed for several hours following a serious crash just over the border in Victoria.

Just before 2am this morning, Thursday 11 February police at the Bordertown checkpoint were advised of a serious crash between two trucks about 5km east of the border, one of the trucks burst into flames, the driver has not yet been located.

SA Police members headed over the border to assist VicPol officers at the scene, Victorian Major Crash are attending the scene but are not expected to arrive for several hours.

The Dukes Highway is currently closed in both directions and access to each State will not be possible at this location. SA motorists heading to Victoria are being diverted south onto Meatworks Road toward Naracoorte, access to Victoria will be via the Wimmera Highway.

If you are heading to Victoria today please do not travel via Bordertown.

Police at Bordertown are currently processing a backlog of travellers who arrived prior to midnight, but will not accept new vehicles. Please plan ahead and go via an alternate route. Thanks for your patience.
