Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has recently completed major works on the Bowenville-Moola Road upgrade project. The road has been re-opened to two-way traffic.
TRC Construction and Maintenance (Infrastructure Services) portfolio spokesperson, Cr Carol Taylor, said the project had upgraded the former unmarked narrow seal to a width of 8.5 metres and improved the pavement strength.
"Council's Construction and Maintenance North team has widened a 2.4km stretch of Bowenville-Moola Road between Duns Road and Myall Creek bridge," Cr Taylor said.
"The upgraded section of road has two 3.5-metre trafficable lanes and 0.75-metre shoulders, which has greatly improved safety and traffic efficiency, while recognising the road as an important connection for primary producers.
"The upgrade provides a higher level of heavy vehicle access for the district's farming community. Transporting agricultural produce and the movement of farming machinery will be greatly improved.
"Council is appreciative of the community's patience while we undertook this vital upgrade project.
"I thank our Infrastructure Services Group team who completed this important road safety improvement. Council sourced project materials from local suppliers.
"Council also completed minor culvert works that had been delayed following rain and additional minor repairs were completed in December 2025, before a second seal and line-marking was recently completed.
"Council is grateful to the Australian Government for contributing $2.1 million through the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program (SLRIP), with Council contributing $2 million."
The SLRIP provides funding for projects that address current and emerging priorities in road infrastructure needs, with focus areas such as improving road safety, productivity, bridge renewal, road resilience, sustainability and heavy vehicle rest areas across Australia.
Separately to the project, Council continues with flood recovery repairs on other sections of Bowenville-Moola Road which are expected to be completed by mid-year, weather permitting.
