Boy charged after police assaulted at Deniliquin

A teenage boy has been charged following inquiries into the alleged assault of a police officer following an arrest in the state's Murray River region yesterday.

About 12.40am (Thursday 18 November 2021), officers from Murray River Police District stopped a vehicle on Russell Street, Deniliquin, and subsequent checks revealed the driver was unlicensed.

Officers attempted to speak with the driver – a 40-year-old woman – before she allegedly became physically aggressive. The woman allegedly assaulted a male constable, before spitting into the face of a female constable.

She was charged and remains before the courts.

During the arrest of the woman, a 16-year-old boy, who is known to the woman, allegedly spat on a male senior constable before fleeing.

Following inquiries into his whereabouts, the boy was arrested later that day at a home on Russell Street, Deniliquin, about 1.15pm.

The teenager was taken to Deniliquin Police Station where he was charged with assault police and intimidate police.

He was granted bail to appear before Deniliquin Children's Court on Tuesday 22 February 2022.
