Boy stabbed in Kiama street fight

A youth has been charged following the alleged stabbing of a teenager in Kiama south of Sydney yesterday, NSW police said.

About 6.30pm Monday, an altercation occurred between a group of 17-year-old youths at Kiama Railway Station.

Following that altercation, it’s alleged one of the boys ran from the scene and was chased by a second boy. When the pair reached the intersection of Terralong Street and Collins Street it’s alleged a knife was produced and one of the boys stabbed the other in the chest.

The injured teen was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to St George Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Police from Lake Illawarra arrested the second boy and took him to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with wounding or grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, having custody of a knife in a public place and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail and will appear in a Children’s Court today.
