New lights are shining bright at Buln Buln Recreation Reserve following the celebration of a $350,000 lighting upgrade at the Lyrebirds home ground.
Four new 30-metre light towers featuring 100 lux LED light fittings have been installed at the oval significantly enhancing safety, accessibility and capacity to support football training and competitions for all age groups as demand grows into the future.
The project was officially launched on the evening of Friday 17 July by Baw Baw Shire Mayor Councillor Kate Wilson and Minister Harriet Shing on behalf of the Victorian Government. In attendance was East Ward Cr Brendan Kingwill and Central Ward Cr Danny Goss, with Buln Buln Football Netball Club President Rosa Jagoe delivering a short address on behalf of the club and local community.
Mayor Wilson said the new lights are a fantastic outcome for the Buln Buln sporting community.
"It's great to see another sporting reserve in Baw Baw Shire receive investment towards a brighter future", the Mayor said.
"These new lights will make training and playing conditions safer and more enjoyable, allowing more training sessions and potential night games to be scheduled at the reserve into the future.
"Prior to this upgrade, the existing lights fell well below the recommended standard, with some areas around the oval having little to no visibility in the winter months. Now the whole oval and surrounds will be well lit and much safer for all players, coaching staff and visitors."
In a collaboration between Baw Baw Shire Council and the Victorian Government, the project has been supported by a $250,000 funding contribution by Sport and Recreation Victoria with the $100,000 balance provided by Council.
"We're grateful for the opportunity to work together with the Victorian Government to invest in projects that deliver lasting benefits to our growing communities. I thank Minister Shing for the generous support which has been essential in making this project possible", the Mayor said.
The reserve is home to several vibrant local sporting clubs including Buln Buln Football and Netball Club, the Buln Buln Junior Football Club and the Buln Buln Cricket Club, with over 15 teams between them.
