More people will be able to get out and about in a safer and healthier Bridgewater community following the development of new public parkland.
Senator for Tasmania Claire Chandler, who helped officially open the latest stage of the Bridgewater Parklands redevelopment today, said the project was Stage 1 of a 10-year vision for the area between the Bridgewater commercial and civic precinct and the Derwent River foreshore.
"This new parkland is a much-needed space for people and families to spend time together-with new lawns, play equipment, picnic tables and barbecues creating a fun, enjoyable and safe place for people of all ages," Senator Chandler said.
"With new and accessible green space and new amenities including public toilets and lighting, the parkland will be a pleasant and safe space for community members to enjoy and I'm delighted that funding from the Coalition Government has helped to deliver it."
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government's $430,000 investment had delivered an important piece of community infrastructure for Bridgewater.
"Supporting eight jobs in construction, using local goods, suppliers and maintenance crew and creating links between local businesses and community projects, this project has filled a gap in local community infrastructure while providing a roadmap for Broadwater's economic future," Mr McCormack said.
"In addition to promoting physical activity and better wellbeing, investing in local parks also creates positive spaces in the community, tackling the root causes of social issues and disadvantage while making the community a better place to live, work and raise a family."
Mayor of Brighton Council Tony Foster said the project represented a significant step towards establishing regional-scale recreational facilities within the municipality.
"We're already seeing high usage of the parkland and local businesses are also benefiting from the increased traffic through the area," Cr Foster said.
"It's a great result for both surrounding retailers and the community."
The Federal Liberal and Nationals Government invested $430,000 in the project under the Building Better Regions Fund-an $841 million investment designed to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future.
Brighton Council also contributed $300,000 with the Affordable Community Housing Alliance Tasmania Limited providing $150,000.
