Bringing New Energy To Ray Robinson Oval - Wollongong

Work has started this week on an exciting lighting upgrade to Ray Robinson Oval, Towradgi.

The works will see the installation of five new lighting poles to replace the aged lighting at the field. Two poles will also be used to provide additional lighting for some of the neighbouring training spaces.

"I know this is a project that will be welcomed by the enthusiastic football community who use these fields for games and training,'' Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown said.

"I'm pleased that through this project we've not only been able to upgrade the existing lighting but ensure that there's an opportunity to offer some general lighting to improve access on the adjoining field.

"Our sporting spaces are so well used across the city, and Council's focus continues to be on exploring ways to maximise opportunities for community access to these areas throughout the year.''

Council's other recently completed sports-focused projects include the opening of the Wollongong Regional Tennis Centre at Beaton Park, field fencing and ballstop fencing at McKinnon Park, and field drainage improvements to JJ Kelly Park and St James Park. Council has also assisted Illawarra Stingrays and Dapto Phoenix with upgrades to Lakelands Oval with improved lighting, irrigation, fencing and new amenities.

The project is expected to take about two months to complete, provided we get good weather. We are working with the users of the site, including Fernhill Football Club and Fernhill Falcons Football Club, on access arrangements while the works are underway.
