Broadmeadows TAFE Health Centre Architect Appointed

VIC Premier

A leading architecture firm will design the Andrews Labor Government's world-class Health and Community Centre of Excellence at Kangan TAFE in Broadmeadows, providing vital training for the local health sector.

Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney today announced Architectus has been appointed to design the $60 million health and community centre as part of the first stage of the campus's revitalisation.

The new facility will feature flexible learning spaces, laboratories and outdoor recreation spaces and will house students in aged care, mental health, disability, nursing, pathology, allied health and health care education services

Kangan TAFE recently signed an MOU with Northern Health to provide students with better access to hands-on learning opportunities as well as health strategies and outcomes for communities in the northern suburbs.

The centre will accommodate growing enrolments at Kangan TAFE, including in Free TAFE courses, which experienced a 12 per cent increase in its first two years, especially in popular courses like Diploma of Nursing.

Construction will start in early 2023 and will create 300 local trade jobs.

The works were funded as part of the Building Better TAFEs Fund in the Victorian Budget 2021/22, which includes $383.8 million for the sector to ensure more Victorians get the training they need for in-demand jobs.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has invested a record $3.2 billion to rebuild TAFE and support universities and higher education.

As stated by Minster for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney

"This health and community centre will be game-changing for communities in Melbourne's north - giving locals the chance to pursue high-quality training and get a job in their local healthcare sector."

"This project is a key part of our record investment in training and skills, and it's really exciting to see it another step closer to reality."

As stated by Member for Broadmeadows Frank McGuire

"I'm looking forward to seeing the eye-catching architecture for this $60 million landmark TAFE that will connect local people to crucial jobs where they are needed most."

As stated by Kangan Institute Chief Executive Officer Sally Curtain

"The Health and Community Centre of Excellence will expand Kangan Institute's course offering in Melbourne's growing northern corridor, with students and teachers learning and teaching in state-of-the-art facilities.

"It will ensure students in Melbourne's north can study and receive training closer to home giving them more opportunities to match their lives to their study."
