BUDGET 19: Improving Living Conditions in Bush

InBudget 2019, the Territory Labor Government continues todeliver on its record $1.1billon investment into remote housing.

Since coming toGovernment we have built, extended and improved 1380 homes.

Budget 2019 will invest:

$115.8million for new remote housing builds

Increasingthe number of homes in the bush and easing overcrowding.

$43.9 million into our Roomto Breathe program

Providingadditional living areas such as bedrooms, verandas andbathrooms to existing homes to ease overcrowding.

$24.6 million to provideadditional government employee housing

Newhousing for our remote employeesincluding teachers,nurses and police.

Budget2019 also includes $61.8 million to continue to develop and service new housing lots in remote communities with the inclusion of essential power, water andsewerage infrastructure making them ready to build on.

As noted by Minister for RemoteHousing and Community Development Gerry McCarthy:

Our remote housing program is as much about job creation,training and skills development as it is about providing safe, healthy homes.

We have invested more inremote housing than any other NT Government ever.

Community consultation and localdecision making has allowed tenants to be involved in the planning and designof building works.
