Budget delivers for Blackwood Community Hub surrounds

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

The Australian Government is delivering on its election commitment to public spaces surrounding the Blackwood Community Hub.

The funding was confirmed as part of the Government's substantial investment in suburban and regional Australia announced in last week's Federal Budget.

The $1.6 million commitment will be delivered as part of a 50/50 funding partnership with Mitcham Council.

Works are expected to include landscaping, pathways, park furniture and play equipment.

The project will be strategically located adjacent to the new Blackwood Community Hub currently under construction in Blackwood.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories Kristy McBain:

"It was great to meet with Council today to discuss progressing this important commitment.

"Under our Government, Australian communities will be empowered to secure the support needed to grow local economies, improve liveability and enhance productivity - so no community is left behind."

Quotes attributable to City of Mitcham Council Mayor Dr Heather Holmes-Ross:

"This project will involve the redevelopment and activation of a popular, but tired, community reserve in the heart of Blackwood.

"The activation of this reserve will encourage links to the broader Blackwood precinct and increase community participation, resulting in economic benefits for the entire Mitcham Hills area."
