Build Beveridge Intermodal Freight Terminal

Mitchell Shire Council, along with the Northern Councils Alliance, welcomes the Federal Government's 2021 Budget commitment to the development of an intermodal freight terminal in Melbourne and is calling on the Victorian State Government to support the development of the Beveridge Intermodal Freight Terminal (BIFT).

The Terminal is a vital project that will support Mitchell Shire's Big Build to maintain a healthy, connected, and sustainable community.

The BIFT will bring 20,000 jobs to the area and is a city-shaping, legacy project which will support neighbouring economies and be a significant ongoing job generator.

Mitchell Shire Council is calling on the Victorian State Government to work with the Federal Government to commit to the delivery of the BIFT. This commitment will support local jobs, invest in diverse industries and provide a strategically located intermodal freight terminal.

Beveridge is in an ideal location for the terminal with its proximity to the Hume Freeway, Australia's National Highway, and the Inland Rail. The BIFT provides the best opportunity to unlock the potential of Inland Rail.

The Beveridge Intermodal Freight Terminal will transform Australia's freight and logistics network.

The BIFT is recognised as a transformational project in the North and West Melbourne City Deal Plan. The City Deal is critical to connect the major employment precincts across the region and improve economic growth, liveability, health and wellbeing.

For Victoria to succeed, Melbourne's North needs to succeed. There is an immediate need to ensure a strategic approach to planning for infrastructure, jobs, and the provision of vital services in the region - the BIFT realises this.

Mitchell Shire's Big Build highlights a further seven transformational projects that will assist in the community's recovery from the impacts of COVID-19 and provide a boost for the Shire's future.

  • Cameron's Lane - Hume Freeway Diamond Interchange
  • Wallan Regional Park
  • Greenhill Reserve Sport, Recreational and Environmental Precinct
  • Kilmore Bypass
  • Kilmore Learning and Community Hub
  • Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub
  • Puckapunyal Tank and Artillery Museum
