Building A New Library And Learning Hub In Warrnambool

People in Warrnambool will have access to state-of-the-art training and community facilities with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government to deliver a new Library and Learning Hub in partnership with the Warrnambool City Council and South West TAFE.

A re-elected Labor Government will invest $16.3 million into the project as part of the Building Better TAFEs Fund with support from the Warrnambool City Council.

The Hub will include a South West TAFE library and staff spaces, public computers, exhibition and public display areas, study and play areas for children, meeting rooms, as well as games and a digital media zone.

It will deliver spaces that link students to education and training in STEM from early years through to adulthood and have a strong focus on building digital skills.

With new dedicated funding to upgrade campuses and buildings across our state, a re-elected Labor Government will continue its rebuild of Victoria’s TAFE system, making it better than ever before.

Under Labor, the new $220 million Building Better TAFEs Fund will see facilities and campuses rebuilt around Victoria, making sure that every community has a great local TAFE.

Additional projects under the re-elected Labor Government’s Fund will be announced in the coming weeks, with metropolitan, suburban and regional TAFEs all set to benefit.

As part of its transformation of our training sector, Labor has cracked down on dodgy providers, as well as creating 30,000 new places, upgrading TAFE campuses in Bendigo, Sale and Morwell and make TAFE free for 30 priority TAFE courses and 20 pre-apprenticeship courses.

The investment is in stark contrast to the previous Liberal Government, which cut over $1 billion from our TAFEs, closing 22 campuses and facilities across the state, and costing hundreds of dedicated staff their jobs.

Only Labor believes in TAFE – and only Labor will back TAFE students.

As noted by Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney

"People in Warrnambool deserve the best training facilities and community spaces and that’s exactly what this project will deliver."

"This project will bring TAFE, the community and industry together in the one place, giving local people the resources and opportunities they need to get a good job."

"The previous Liberal Government tried to wipe out TAFE in South West Victoria – we’re not only repairing the damage they did, we’re making record investment to make it better than ever."
