Building approvals continue to soar

Elise Archer,Minister for Building and Construction

Tasmania has recorded the highest number of building approvals in 12 months in more than 25 years according to the latest ABS Building approvals.

In the year to March 2021 there were 3850 building approvals, which is 22.3% more than the previous year and the second highest annual growth of any state.

Tasmania's building and construction industry is going from strength to strength and with strong growth in building approvals, there is a huge pipeline of infrastructure and housing work still to come.

This also follows the success of our HomeBuilder package, which has bolstered housing construction in Tasmania at a pace not seen in more than a decade.

Matt Pollock from the Masters Builders Association said "Every $1 spent on building these new homes will support an additional $3 in economic activity."

"The enthusiasm from Tasmanians to build a new home over the past 12 months has been amazing," said Matt Pollock.

With a strong economy, a pipeline of projects and jobs rebounding, only a majority Gutwein Liberal Government has a plan to Secure Tasmania's Future.
