Building better grant projects: Campaspe Shire

Campaspe Shire Council will apply for $3.539 million under the Australian Government's Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) - Round Five, to secure 50 per cent funding towards three key regional infrastructure projects.

Mayor Cr Chrissy Weller said Council will commit the same amount in matching funds to enable grant applications to be lodged for construction of a netball court at Kyabram Recreation Reserve, development of the Rushworth Murchison (Waranga) Trail link and improvement works at the Echuca Aerodrome.

"The Federal Government's Building Better Regions Fund provides an opportunity for Council to progress three infrastructure projects that will provide significant economic and social benefits for our community and the region as a whole," Cr Weller said.

"All projects are 'investment-ready' and we are committed to bringing them to fruition as soon as possible."

Applications will be lodged to the BBRF for the following projects:

Netball Court Construction at Kyabram Recreation Reserve

Kyabram Recreation Reserve is a regional facility with one compliant netball court and one non-compliant netball court, which is beyond repair and not able to be used for official games. If BBRF funding is successful, works would see construction of a new court, adjacent to the existing compliant court. This would streamline logistics for umpiring, spectating and power, currently not possible with the non-compliant court, located 150 metres away from the compliant court.

Rushworth Murchison (Waranga) Trail Project

This project is for construction of an 11 kilometre trail link (Waranga section) between Rushworth and Murchison. If BBRF funding is successful, works would include formation of a walking/cycling trail on the former Rushworth to Murchison rail reserve, installation of signage and provision of (and repair to) infrastructure along the route.

Improvement works at the Echuca Aerodrome

At its meeting of 18 August 2020 Council endorsed recommendations to adopt a forward program of works for the aerodrome to guide future investment and funding decisions. If BBRF funding is successful, works would include runway upgrade and taxiway extensions, and associated works such as lighting, drainage and boundary markers.
